Grenada Fields 46 Candidates for November 5

Nomination Day Sets the Field

Nomination Day produced 46 officially nominated candidates for the general election scheduled for Thursday, November 5, 2026, as tracked in our Grenada election updates. The governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), led by Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell, and the New National Party (NNP) are expected to contest all 15 constituencies.

The newly formed Democratic People’s Movement (DPM), led by former foreign affairs minister Peter David, is reported to be contesting nine seats. The election will fill all 15 elected seats in the House of Representatives, with a party needing eight seats for a majority.

The previous election, held on June 23, 2022, gave Mitchell’s NDC nine of the 15 seats, with the NNP taking six. Mitchell became prime minister after that win.

Timetable and Voting Hours

Polling on November 5 runs from 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time in Grenada, Atlantic Standard Time, equivalent to 5:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time. Special polling for police officers is scheduled for November 2.

Campaign Positions Sharpen

NNP leader Emmalin Pierre used the party’s “Better Grenada” rally at the National Stadium near St. George’s to tell supporters to remain focused until 6:00 p.m. on November 5, when she said Grenada would see “a new government.” The NNP’s central economic proposal includes reducing corporate tax from 28% to 25%.

The most closely watched constituency contest is in the rural St Andrew South-east seat, where incumbent NNP leader Emmalin Pierre faces Education Minister David Andrew of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Pierre defeated Andrew by about 230 votes in the 2022 general election.

What It Means for US Readers

For US readers, the November 5 vote in Grenada will test whether Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell’s NDC can hold its nine-seat majority against a full NNP challenge. Grenada is a three-island Eastern Caribbean state with a 15-seat House of Representatives.

King Charles III is head of state, represented by a governor-general. Voters elect the House, and the party that commands it forms the government.

What Is Not Known

No credible, named public opinion poll was identified in recent reporting, and no active prediction market on the Grenada vote was found. The party-by-party breakdown of all 46 candidates beyond the NDC, NNP and DPM slates has not been published in the reports we reviewed.

It is also unclear whether the DPM can turn its nine candidacies into constituency-level support. The NDC needs to keep at least eight of 15 seats against a full NNP challenge.
