Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized 15,084 Indian smartphone displays worth Tk12.03 crore from the Bijoynagar border in Brahmanbaria.
BGB members recovered the displays during an operation in the Bhagolpur area of Bijoynagar upazila, but no one was arrested.
Lieutenant Colonel Jabbar Ahmed, commander of BGB Battalion 25, confirmed the information at a press conference at the battalion headquarters today (14 October). He said a patrol team from Alinagar Border Outpost conducted the operation around 1:30am today.
Meanwhile, 25–30 people were attempting to enter Bangladesh from India carrying cartons on their heads. When BGB members chased them, they abandoned the cartons and fled.
A search of the cartons led to the recovery of 15,084 Indian smartphone displays wrapped in adhesive tape, the BGB commander said.
The process of handing over the smuggled displays to the authorities at Akhaura Land Customs Station is underway, he added.
