KUALA LUMPUR: The Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) will appeal against blogger Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris's acquittal in a sedition case over alleged remarks that the government was pro-Israel.
In a statement, the A-GC said it had decided to file a notice of appeal after reviewing the Sessions Court's decision to acquit and discharge Wan Azri, 43, better known as Papagomo, at the close of his defence case.
The AGC said the Sessions Court had initially acquitted Wan Azri on Sept 3, 2025, at the close of the prosecution's case.
However, the prosecution appealed against the decision, and the High Court allowed the appeal on July 31, ruling that a prima facie case had been established.
The High Court then ordered Wan Azri to enter his defence before Sessions Court judge Siti Aminah Ghazali, who was sitting in Klang.
Wan Azri testified under oath as the sole defence witness.
The A-GC said Wan Azri admitted to making the statement for which he was charged but presented what it described as a bare denial in his defence.
"After reviewing the Sessions Court judge's decision to acquit and discharge him at the end of his defence case today, the A-GC has decided to file a notice of appeal in the near future," it said.
Wan Azri was charged under Section 4(1)(b) of the Sedition Act.
He had pleaded not guilty to allegedly making seditious remarks in a Facebook post on Nov 8, 2023, claiming that the government was pro-Israel.
