A new phenomenon has appeared on Greek roads: some drivers are placing fake or forged disabled parking stickers on their windshields in an attempt to use spaces reserved for people with disabilities.
Illegal parking is already common in Greek cities. Now drivers are targeting disabled parking bays by displaying imitation signs, even though these stickers provide no legal right to park there.
Under Greek law, only vehicles displaying the official Disabled Parking Card — the “blue card” — may use these spaces. The card is issued exclusively to certified beneficiaries through KEPA or other health committees, via Gov.gr, regional offices or KEP centres. Even a person with a disability certificate cannot legally park in these spaces without the actual blue card.
The new Road Traffic Code classifies illegal parking in disabled spaces as a serious offence (category E2-B). It carries a €150 fine, seizure of registration documents for 70 days and a 20-day driving licence suspension. A second offence within five years increases the fine to €1,000 and can result in licence revocation for up to 180 days.
Any unofficial sticker is treated as completely illegal.
