Edo State House of Assembly has passed N939 billion 2026 Supplementary Appropriation Bill, with capital expenditure accounting for the bulk of the proposed spending, amid efforts to finance additional government programmes and projects in the state.
The bill was passed during plenary in Benin on Monday after scaling its third reading following the presentation of the report by the House Committee on Appropriations, Budget and Project Monitoring.
The supplementary budget, earlier presented to the House by Governor Monday Okpebholo, provides for capital expenditure of approximately N588.32 billion and recurrent expenditure of N350.53 billion.

According to the figures contained in the bill, capital expenditure is put at N588,324,843,804.66, while recurrent expenditure stands at N350,525,195,000.34.
The passage followed the consideration of the committee’s report, after which lawmakers reverted to the Committee of the Whole to expedite deliberations and conclude the legislative process.
The House Majority Leader, Hon. Osezua Sunday Ojezelle, moved the motion for the passage of the bill, which was seconded by Hon. Atu, representing Orhionmwon South Constituency.
Following the adoption of the motion, the lawmakers approved the bill, paving the way for its transmission to the governor for assent.
The Speaker of the House, Hon. Yekini Idiaye, subsequently directed the Clerk, Alhaji Yahaya Omogbai, to prepare and transmit clean copies of the bill to Governor Okpebholo for his assent.
The supplementary appropriation is expected to provide additional budgetary authorisation for government expenditure in the 2026 fiscal year, subject to the final provisions of the law.
The Speaker, however, congratulated the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, on the occasion of his 10th coronation anniversary.
