Tourism Minister S. Rajesh Kumar inspected the ongoing desilting works in Parakkinkal canal and Kangeyan canal on Thursday.
The Nagercoil Corporation is carrying out desilting works at major drains and canals across the Corporation limits to ensure the smooth flow of rainwater and prevent waterlogging.
During the inspection, Mr. Rajesh Kumar enquired with the officials about the ongoing works to remove accumulated silt and waste from the canals. He also instructed the officials to expedite the desilting works and intensify monsoon preparedness measures to prevent waterlogging and minimise inconvenience to the public during the monsoon season.
Kanniyakumari District Collector M. Prathap, Nagercoil Corporation Commissioner R. Ishwarya, Nagercoil MLA S. Austin, Nagercoil Corporation in-charge Mayor Mary Princy Latha and other officials were present.
