A community leader in Taraba state, King Eltopzy, has announced the apprehension of a suspected member of an armed robbery group operating in the Shavoh and Yagai areas.
King Eltopzy disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, saying the operation also led to the recovery of a motorcycle allegedly stolen from his residence and two air conditioners reportedly stolen within the community.
He said efforts would continue to ensure the safety of residents and protect lives and property in Shavoh and neighbouring communities.
The community leader urged residents to remain vigilant and support security personnel in tackling insecurity, emphasising the need for collective action to safeguard the area.
Describing security as a responsibility that transcends political affiliations, Eltopzy criticised attempts to politicise recent security developments in the community.
He alleged that some individuals were using the incident to advance the interests of their preferred political candidates rather than supporting efforts to address insecurity.
"Community security is beyond politics. The safety of our people must never be sacrificed on the altar of political desperation," he said.
He also expressed concern over the alleged spread of misinformation, urging residents and political actors to verify information before circulating it.
"The community needs responsible dialogue, cooperation with relevant security agencies and collective commitment to addressing security challenges," he said.
He further called on residents to report suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities and allow security personnel to perform their duties professionally and lawfully.
Stressing that security remained a priority under the Taraba state government, the community leader urged residents to rise above political differences and work towards building a safer and more peaceful environment.
