The family of the late Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, has tentatively fixed December 17 and 18, 2026, for his burial, as preparations begin to honour the elder statesman’s life and contributions to society.
The dates were disclosed by his daughter, Olufunmilayo Fasoranti, while receiving pioneer students of Anglican Grammar School, Iju-Itaogbolu, Ondo State, who visited the family to commiserate with them over the death of their former principal.
The visit provided an opportunity for the former students to pay their respects to the family and honour the memory of the deceased, who had served as their principal.
Family plans burial before year-end
Olufunmilayo said the family was working towards conducting the burial before the end of 2026, taking into consideration the forthcoming general election and the Christmas festivities.
She explained that the proposed dates were part of the family’s efforts to organise the funeral within the year while considering the timing of other major activities during the period.
The family is expected to communicate additional information concerning the burial arrangements as preparations progress.
Funeral service to hold in Akure
The deceased’s daughter disclosed that the funeral service would take place at St David’s Anglican Cathedral in Akure, Ondo State, where her father worshipped.
The choice of the cathedral reflects the late elder statesman’s connection with the church, according to the information provided by the family.
She, however, stated that further details about the burial programme would be communicated in due course.
The December 17 and 18 dates remain tentative, with the family expected to provide further announcements regarding the final arrangements.
Pa Fasoranti was a prominent figure in Afenifere, the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, and was widely associated with its activities and advocacy.
His death has prompted condolence visits from individuals and groups seeking to honour his memory, including the pioneer students of Anglican Grammar School, Iju-Itaogbolu, who described him through their visit as a figure worthy of remembrance.
