ISLAMABAD: Only four of nine detained Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MNAs were brought to Parliament on Friday to attend the ongoing National Assembly session, leaving five elected representatives absent from the proceedings despite a request for their production.
The four lawmakers, Sanaullah Mastikhel, Dawar Kundi, Mian Ghous Muhammad and Muhammad Jamal Ahsan Khan, were brought to Parliament under tight security. Their residences at Parliament Lodges have been declared sub-jails.
The development came a day after PTI chief whip in the National Assembly Aamir Dogar wrote to NA Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, seeking production orders for all nine detained members to enable them to attend the ongoing session.
In his letter, Dogar urged the speaker to take immediate notice of the matter and ensure the lawmakers’ attendance in the House.
The nine MNAs named in the letter were Haji Imtiaz Ahmad Choudhry, Muhammad Jamal Ahsan Khan, Mian Ghous Muhammad, Sanaullah Mastikhel, Dawar Kundi, Junaid Akbar, Amjad Ali Khan, Fazal Muhammad Khan and Adil Khan Bazai.
However, only four had been brought to Parliament by the time this report was filed, while the remaining five continued to remain absent from the proceedings.
It was unclear whether they would be produced during the ongoing session or whether further orders would be issued to facilitate their attendance.
The PTI lawmakers were arrested by police in different parts of the country ahead of the party’s planned long march towards Islamabad on September 27.
The march was subsequently dispersed following the imposition of emergency and governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on October 11.
The reasons for the non-production of the five lawmakers were not immediately available.
