Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar says ensuring stability in Afghanistan is essential for protecting regional peace and that the country’s territory must not be used for terrorist attacks against Pakistan or other countries around the world.
Pakistani media reported on Tuesday, October 20, that Dar made these remarks at a meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan.
He said Pakistan wants a peaceful, stable and prosperous Afghanistan that is at peace with itself and its neighbouring countries.
Pakistan’s foreign minister added that Islamabad has worked to support Afghanistan’s development and the well-being of its people and expects the Taliban to prevent Afghanistan’s territory from being used for terrorist attacks.
Dar also stressed that sustainable economic development is impossible without lasting peace and security in the region, adding that Pakistan is committed to creating a stable regional environment.
These remarks come as Islamabad has repeatedly called on the Taliban to prevent armed groups from operating out of Afghanistan and launching attacks against Pakistan. However, the Taliban have consistently rejected these allegations.
