The government has withdrawn five police personnel deployed to guard the CPN-UML’s central office in Chyasal, Lalitpur, effective Monday morning.
Bhishma Adhikari, chief secretary of the party’s central office, said the UML would now make alternative security arrangements following the withdrawal.
Police had provided security at the party’s central office for years, including during its time in Balkhu, Dhumbarahi, and Thapathali.
“The police had been providing security because the party office is a public institution,” Adhikari told Kantipur. “The government recalled the five police personnel deployed at the office from Monday morning. We are surprised by the decision.”
Adhikari said the number of security personnel assigned to the office had been adjusted from time to time according to need.
