Federal prosecutors have secured a guilty plea from the owner of a Santee trucking company in a $2 million credit card fraud and identity theft scheme.
Hasan Korkmaz, 45, of Las Vegas and operator of San Diego Logistics Group Inc., admitted to all 18 counts of bank fraud, money laundering and aggravated identity theft in federal court on October 15th, 2026, says the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of California.
Korkmaz obtained names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers and other personally identifiable information belonging to nearly 100 people during 2022 and 2023 to create fake credit card accounts at two banks.
He ran up large balances on the cards through purchases at his own business and other outlets, with some single charges reaching $18,500.
“Korkmaz executed a credit card ‘bust-out’ scheme, where fraudsters establish seemingly legitimate credit card accounts in other people’s names and then ‘bust out’ by maxing out the credit line with no intention of paying the balance.”
Korkmaz admitted to making fraudulent payments to credit card accounts using checks drawn on accounts with insufficient funds or accounts that did not exist, temporarily restoring the cards’ available credit limits. He then used the cards to rack up additional charges at or near their maximum limits. The scheme caused more than $2.103 million in losses to two banks.
He also laundered the proceeds, including by transferring the money overseas to a bank account in Turkey that he controlled. According to public filings, after carrying out the credit card fraud scheme using stolen identities, Korkmaz fled to Turkey. He remained there for 18 months before returning to the US, where he was arrested in June 2025.
Sentencing is set for January 8th, 2027, before Judge James E. Simmons Jr.
