Los Angeles Lakers forward Jake LaRavia will miss Friday’s game against the Los Angeles Clippers due to an ankle injury he sustained in Wednesday’s season opener.
LaRavia suffered the injury in the fourth quarter of Wednesday’s win, stepping on his defender’s foot and rolling his ankle before exiting the game. He appeared on the injury report as questionable on Thursday with an ankle sprain before the Lakers ruled him out Friday.
Friday’s game will miss the first LaRavia has missed as a Laker due to injury or illness, as he featured in every one of the team’s contests last season..
Through 82 games last season, LaRavia averaged 8.2 points per game with 4.0 rebounds and 1.8 assists, serving an important role off of the bench for the team. In the Lakers’ opener, he logged 10 points with two rebounds and two assists.
Who Will Fill in For Jake LaRavia?
LaRavia may be missing the second game of the year, but the Lakers made sure to reinforce their forward depth during the offseason, so they won’t miss him too much.
Ziaire Williams started the first game of the season and is in line for a second consecutive start after joining the team this winter, and Quentin Grimes and Matisse Thybulle are behind him as reliable depth.
Williams played 24 minutes in the opener and logged nine points, snagging three rebounds while dishing out four assists.
Who Else Will Miss Friday’s Game Against the Clippers?
LaRavia isn’t the only one on the injury report for Friday’s game, as Cameron Carr is also set to miss out on the contest.
Carr had a strong preseason after the Lakers selected him in the first round of this past draft, but he’s yet to make his official NBA debut after dealing with an oblique strain.
Collin Sexton won’t be missing the game after sitting out in the opener with a soleus strain, though, so the Lakers have some added quality coming off of the bench to supplement their back court in the second game of the season.
With some of their new faces stepping into bigger roles, the Lakers will look to secure a win over a surprisingly impressive Clippers team heading into Friday’s game at 7:00 p.m. PT to improve to 2-0 on the season.
