A London mansion linked to one of the most talked-about episodes in Princess Diana and King Charles’s marriage has entered the property market with an asking price of $33.5 million.
Ormeley Lodge, a Grade II-listed Georgian residence in Richmond, was the setting for a reported 1989 confrontation in which Diana challenged Camilla about her relationship with Charles. The 2.3-acre estate also held a more personal place in Diana’s life, serving as a home where she spent time with close friend Lady Annabel Goldsmith and occasionally visited with Princes William and Harry. Now, the historic property is being offered to a new owner.
Ormeley Lodge’s $33.5 million sale brings Princess Diana-linked royal estate to market
Ormeley Lodge stands in Richmond, south-west London, on a 2.3-acre estate enclosed by walled gardens. The Grade II-listed Georgian property is being marketed through Sotheby’s International Realty, with the asking price reported by People at $33.5 million. The house has ten bedrooms and seven bathrooms, alongside a swimming pool, tennis court, wine cellar and additional cottages. The estate combines the scale of a substantial private residence with the history of a home that hosted members of the royal family and their circle.
Its gardens and grounds offer considerable space within London, while the listed status reflects the building’s architectural heritage. The sale follows the death of Lady Annabel Goldsmith, who died aged 91 in October 2025.In conversation with Daily Mail, Ben Goldsmith said, “Ormeley has been our treasured home for our whole lives. But it's time now to pass it on to another lucky family.”
The 1989 party that linked the house to Diana and Camilla
Ormeley Lodge is associated with an episode that reportedly took place during a 40th birthday celebration for Annabel Elliot, Camilla’s sister, in 1989.
Lady Annabel Goldsmith hosted the gathering at her home, where Diana is said to have encountered Charles and Camilla sitting together in a drawing room with a male friend.According to accounts of the evening, Diana asked Charles and the other man to leave so that she could speak to Camilla privately. The princess was then said to have made it clear that she knew about the relationship and did not want to be treated as though she were unaware of what was happening.
The reported exchange has since become part of the wider story of the breakdown of Diana and Charles’s marriage.
Lady Annabel Goldsmith’s friendship with Princess Diana
The relationship between Diana and Lady Annabel Goldsmith extended well beyond that evening. Goldsmith was part of the social circle in which the princess spent time during the 1990s, and Ormeley Lodge became a familiar place for her to visit. Ben Goldsmith later recalled that Diana was particularly close to his mother during the final decade of her life.In comments reported by The Times, Ben described Diana spending time at the house, including relaxing beside the swimming pool. He also recalled that Prince William and Prince Harry sometimes accompanied their mother. The family’s social life brought the princes into contact with the Goldsmith household while they were growing up, and William attended Eton at the same time as Ben.Those visits gave the estate a place in Diana’s private life away from formal royal engagements.
The property was not simply a venue for a single party.
From Charles and Diana’s marriage to the king and queen’s relationship
Charles married Lady Diana Spencer in 1981, but their marriage deteriorated amid persistent reports of infidelity and differences between the couple. They separated in 1992 and divorced in 1996. Diana died in a car crash in Paris in August 1997, aged 36.Charles and Camilla’s relationship eventually became public. They appeared together at a birthday celebration for Annabel Elliot at the Ritz Hotel in London in January 1999, a moment that marked a significant change in how they presented their relationship.
They married in 2005, and Camilla became queen consort when Charles acceded to the throne in 2022.The history attached to Ormeley Lodge spans those different stages of their lives. Its association with the alleged 1989 confrontation reflects a period when the relationship between Charles and Camilla was not openly acknowledged in the same way, while the later visits by Diana and her sons show another side of the house’s role in her life.
A family home with a royal history
For the Goldsmith family, Ormeley Lodge was a place of long-standing personal significance rather than simply a property connected to the royal family. Its rooms and gardens were the backdrop to family gatherings, social occasions and visits from friends, including Diana. That history has become part of the public interest surrounding the sale. The estate’s next owner will acquire a substantial Georgian residence with formal grounds and a long connection to London’s social and royal circles.
The asking price reflects the property being offered as a high-value private estate, while its links to Diana and Camilla give it a history that extends beyond its architecture. With the Goldsmith family now preparing to pass the house on, Ormeley Lodge is returning to the market after decades as a private home. Its next chapter will belong to another household, but the stories attached to its drawing room and gardens are likely to remain part of its identity.
