The Prime Minister today condemned the "difficult" international situation that leads to the senselessness of rising oil prices, which has "penalised economies and people," calling for an end to it, Lusa reports.
“We have to resolve this issue (...) in the coming weeks, in the near future, this senselessness of penalising economies and people, in general, from which no one is benefiting, and resolve this impasse,” said Luís Montenegro.
The head of government was speaking at the ceremony marking the centenary of the municipality of São João da Madeira, in Aveiro, celebrated at the Casa da Criatividade.
Rising fuel prices
The governor alluded to this context and the "uncertainty it entails" to point to "the effect it is having on the supply of essential goods, particularly fuels, whose price is rising recklessly."
"Because there is no economy in the world that is not suffering some effect from the increase in the price of oil, and consequently, of fuels, and many other products whose price is inflated by the cost of transportation, he said.
“Here in São João da Madeira, I want to evoke the principle of not wasting anyone's strength, but valuing everyone's strength. That is what has been, and I want it to be, in this week in which we present the State Budget, even more so in the vision of Portuguese society, at a time that we know is an extraordinarily difficult time. It is a very difficult time, a result of the instability we feel in the international landscape,” he recalled.
International instability
Solving the fuel issue will not be enough, since "there are other factors of instability," from "political, geopolitical, and commercial wars." "We cannot let ourselves be brought down, we cannot falter in the face of difficulty," he commented.
