IMPHAL, Oct 16: Lok Sabha Member and former JNU Professor Dr Bimol Akoijam has stated that all the charges made against him, the dismissal from JNU and the registration of FIR are all attempts to silence the voice of the people of Manipur.
Dr Bimol Akoijam who went to Vasant Kunj North Police, New Delhi yesterday to give his statement came back to Imphal today.
Speaking to media persons at Imphal Airport, Dr Bimol appealed to the public to remain calm.
He said that the issue surrounding the sexual harassment allegation is being handled quite tactfully by his lawyer.
He said that the pain and humiliation he felt at the moment is insignificant as compared to the pain and suffering of IDPs and those families who have lost their dear and near ones in the prolonged violence.
The stoic silence of the Government on the many questions raised in the Lok Sabha regarding SoO agreement and other key issues is a blatant violation of House rules, he said.
Dr Bimol said that the allegations made against him and the subsequent actions are an attempt to silence him.
He appealed to all sections of people not to be deceived by the Government’s attempt to give a completely different narrative to the Manipur violence.
“It would not be any exaggeration to say that the allegations made against me are an attempt to silence me for being vocal against the BJP Government, and for articulating the people’s grievances and voices”, the Lok Sabha Member asserted.
Instead of working to bring an end to the prolonged violence, brutal killings and SoO militants running amok, the BJP Government has been trying to divert the public attention to a totally different direction, he said.
Dr Bimol added that he will fight the allegations levelled against him until justice is delivered.
