US President Donald Trump announced Wednesday the launching of the Alaska LNG Project, characterizing it as the largest energy infrastructure project in Alaska’s history.
President Trump stated that the development includes a $50 billion infrastructure investment from the Republic of Korea. He noted that the South Korean capital injection forms part of a broader bilateral trade and investment agreement negotiated with his administration.
In a related announcement, President Trump disclosed that US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick secured an offtake commitment from Taiwan valued between $70 billion and $80 billion for Alaska LNG.
Trump emphasized that the historic agreement secures 30 percent of the pipeline’s capacity over the next 20 years, marking the largest offtake agreement on record. Additionally, President Trump confirmed that Taiwan agreed to invest $4.4 billion in equity directly into the Alaska LNG Project.
He highlighted that the initiative operates as a US federal government project, noting that all necessary regulatory permits and authorizations have been fully delivered to commence operations.
