The Economic Fighters League (EFL) has called for an immediate, independent inquiry into the alleged sexual abuse of students by the headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS), warning that attempts to sweep the matter under the rug will not be tolerated.
In a press statement issued on October 20, 2026, and signed by its leadership, the movement stressed that recent revelations by Joy News investigative correspondent Manasseh Azure Awuni demand a rigorous and transparent investigation rather than premature claims of exoneration.
Calls for institutional accountability
While acknowledging that the headmaster’s admissions regarding meeting one of the victims and giving her money do not automatically establish guilt, the EFL argued that these details make a comprehensive, independent inquiry indispensable.
The movement expressed deep concern over how earlier grievances were managed within the educational hierarchy, demanding that all officials within the Ghana Education Service (GES) answer for their handling of past complaints.
“Any attempt to conceal abuse, intimidate students or shield those responsible must have consequences,” the statement emphasized.
Demand for student protection
The Fighters stressed that educational institutions must remain safe havens for learning rather than environments marked by exploitation and fear. They insisted that no individual’s political affiliation, social status, or institutional standing should place them above the law.
The League has consequently outlined three core demands: an independent judicial or external investigation, comprehensive psychological and physical protection for the affected students, and strict accountability for every official whose acts or omissions enabled the alleged misconduct.
