The Emir of Zazzau, Malam Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, has confirmed the appointment of Mallam Isiaka Abdulrazaq as Tafidan Yamman Zazzau.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday, a letter issued by the Zazzau Emirate Council dated October 7, 2026, corresponding to 27 Rabi’ul Thani, 1448 AH, from the Office of the Council Secretary, stated this.
The statement added that the letter was signed by Malam Yusuf Abubakar Hayat, Magatakardan Zazzau.
The council said the traditional title recognises Abdulrazaq’s contributions to community development, peace-building and the advancement of the Zazzau Emirate.
Abdulrazaq, a lawyer and finance professional, has had a long career in Nigeria’s public sector, particularly in the power and petroleum industries.
He served at the National Electric Power Authority, later known as the Power Holding Company of Nigeria, where he rose to the position of Executive Director, Finance and Accounts.
He subsequently joined the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, where he served as Chief Financial Officer before retiring in 2019.
Born in Zaria, Abdulrazaq attended Barewa College, one of the longstanding educational institutions in Northern Nigeria. He has also been involved in philanthropic activities and community initiatives.
His appointment comes against the backdrop of his family’s longstanding association with the Zazzau Emirate.
He is the son of the late Alhaji A.G.F. Abdulrazaq, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and former Tafidan Zazzau, who received the traditional title in 1962.
The family has maintained ties with Zaria since the mid-1950s, according to details accompanying the announcement.
The Emir and members of the Zazzau Emirate Council congratulated the new title holder and expressed confidence in his ability to discharge the responsibilities associated with the office.
They also prayed for divine guidance, wisdom and strength for Abdulrazaq as he assumes the traditional role.
The Zazzau Emirate Council, based at the Emir’s Palace in Zaria, is responsible for preserving the emirate’s traditional institutions and heritage while promoting peace and unity among its people.
