Local sources in Kandahar say that the Taliban’s Morality Police in the province have disrupted people’s daily lives and restricted their freedom of movement by following and monitoring them.
Sources told the Hasht-e Subh Daily on Tuesday, October 20, that some Kandahar residents have complained about the conduct of the Taliban’s Morality Police and called for the situation to be addressed.
One Kandahar resident said that the Taliban’s Morality Police monitor his family members and follow him when he leaves home for work.
He added that the situation has made it difficult for him to leave home peacefully to carry out his daily activities and provide for his family’s needs.
In another incident, members of the Taliban’s Morality Police remained outside his home for hours, “struck the house door with stones and threatened to enter the house.”
Kandahar residents have called on the Taliban’s officials responsible for the propagation of virtue and prevention of vice in the province to investigate these complaints and monitor the conduct of their morality police officers.
They stressed that they are prepared to be held accountable under Taliban rules if they commit a crime, but called for an end to harsh treatment of them and their families when they have committed no crime.
Local sources say complaints about the conduct of the Taliban’s Morality Police are not limited to Kandahar, and residents of other provinces across Afghanistan are also dissatisfied with their actions.
