Wyndham Residences Piraeus Marina Zeas held its official inauguration on Monday 12 October, with Piraeus Mayor Giannis Moralis among the guests.
Wyndham Hotels & Resorts EMEA President Dimitris Manikis also attended. In addition, DKG Development President and CEO Konstantinos Petridis joined political and business figures and tourism professionals.
After the ceremony, guests enjoyed a cocktail reception and then toured the hotel.
The hotel stands at 68 Akti Moutsopoulou, in the heart of the Zeas marina. DKG Development owns the investment, while the hotel runs under the Wyndham Residences brand.
Wyndham Hotels & Resorts is one of the world’s largest hotel franchise groups.
Wyndham Residences Piraeus inside
Wyndham Residences Piraeus Marina Zeas has 72 fully equipped residences of 23 to 88 square metres. Most also have a balcony with views of the marina and the Saronic Gulf.
Architect Jean-Pierre Heim designed the facade, with its distinctive wave-shaped balconies. Inside, guests will find a restaurant and bar, a fully equipped gym and a meeting room.
As a result, the hotel aims at both leisure and business travellers.
“Today is a particularly important day for DKG Development and for Piraeus,” Petridis said. “We believe deeply in the dynamism of this city and we continue to invest in it.”
He said the project proved that Piraeus can and should offer quality, internationally recognised hotels. After all, it is the country’s largest commercial, cruise and passenger port, he said. “It is only the beginning.”
A gateway to Athens
For Manikis, Piraeus holds a special position because it is both a gateway to Athens and a destination in its own right. That makes it an interesting market for Wyndham Residences, he said.
“This opening reflects our approach to growth in Greece,” Manikis said. The aim, he said, is to combine “the right brand and the right business model with the right location”.
Moralis said such investments show that people now come to stay in the city, not only to pass through. “Piraeus is changing,” the mayor said.
An international brand at Marina Zeas also strengthens the tourism identity of Piraeus and supports the local economy, Moralis said. In his view, it highlights one of the city’s most beautiful neighbourhoods.
The hotel first began welcoming guests on 30 July.
