A Cuban expatriate now living in Tampa, Florida, has shared his thoughts on how the experience of falling in love transforms after moving to the United States. In a TikTok video, the young man contrasted the spontaneity of romantic relationships in Cuba with his experiences since arriving in America.
Identified on TikTok as @alberto..salazar, he fondly recalled how easy it was to find a partner back on the island.
"I'm Cuban, you all know that, and while I was living on the island, I was always in a relationship. It was somewhat simpler to meet someone. I'd sit on the Malecón, eat my peanut cone, have a nice conversation, and we'd end up going home happy," he recounted.
However, he notes that his experience has been quite different since moving to the United States, even in a state with a large Cuban community. "Despite living in Florida, which is full of Cubans, I feel that Cubans change a lot when they get here," he stated.
He clarified that his reflection is not about the nationality of the women he has dated, but about the way of experiencing love and cherishing small moments. He mentioned that almost all his partners have been Cuban, with the exception of one Venezuelan.
"I'm referring to the inner self, to the innocence of that Cuban who used to enjoy little things in Cuba, like going to the Malecón and falling in love while looking at the sea. Not here," he expressed, hinting at how much he misses that way of emotionally connecting with someone.
His reflection has sparked interest on TikTok, where the video has garnered over 89,000 views, 9,400 likes, and hundreds of comments. In the description, the Cuban summed up his view on love with a phrase: "I remain that good and innocent baby."
The topic of love and relationships among Cuban emigrants has also been a hot topic on social media. Recently, another Cuban sent a message to single women in Miami, claiming many were searching for partners in the wrong places, which also sparked reactions among users.
