Bachmeier delivered a spectacular all-around performance. He attacked the Fighting Irish through the air and fought for crucial rushing yards. He also made history by scoring as a passer, rusher, and receiver. However, his biggest moment came in the fourth quarter. That’s when he orchestrated a clutch 55-yard drive that culminated in a go-ahead touchdown pass to Walker Lyons.
BYU’s defense then delivered the decisive stop on the goal line. That sealed the upset and sent the home crowd into a frenzy. As fans flooded the field to celebrate, Bachmeier’s tears captured the magnitude of the victory. It was an authentic reaction that resonated far beyond Provo. The moment underscored what the sport means to players who pour everything into their pursuit of a defining moment.
The emotional finish also reflects BYU’s remarkable start to the 2026 season. The Cougars have improved to 6-0. They have built momentum through a string of victories before announcing themselves nationally with the stunning takedown of Notre Dame. Bachmeier’s composure under pressure and ability to impact the game in multiple ways have become central to BYU’s success.
The challenge now is sustaining that standard as the spotlight grows brighter. With an unblemished record and renewed national attention, the Cougars head on the road to face UCF with a chance to prove their breakthrough was no fluke. For Bachmeier and BYU, Saturday night was a genuine statement.
