No evidence of mismanagement of pharmaceutical supplies was found at pharmacies operated by Greece’s National Organization for Healthcare Services Provision (EOPYY), according to the organization’s response to a 2026 audit report by the country’s Court of Audit.
Audit Report 1/2026 examined pharmacy operations, inventory records, the adequacy of internal control mechanisms and the organization of pharmacy facilities. The review covered 2024 through April 30, 2025.
EOPYY said several measures are already underway to improve its organizational structure, strengthen oversight and modernize the management of medicines.
New systems and tighter controls
EOPYY’s board of directors has approved a draft presidential decree aimed at reorganizing and upgrading the organization. The proposal has been forwarded for further action.

A new inventory management system has also been introduced at 30 EOPYY pharmacies. It records medication batch numbers and expiration dates to improve traceability and monitoring of stock levels.
Other measures include stronger internal audits, clearer allocation of responsibilities and improvements to pharmacy facilities through renovations or relocation.
The initiatives are intended to ensure the safe handling of high-cost medicines, make better use of public funds and maintain uninterrupted service for insured patients.
EOPYY pharmacies served 328,500 patients in 2025
EOPYY pharmacies served approximately 328,500 individual patients in 2025 and filled 2.41 million prescriptions, with 160 pharmacists employed to meet demand.
The organization’s planned changes aim to improve the management of medicines while strengthening accountability and the reliability of pharmacy services.
