The Karnataka government has issued a preliminary notification for the additional acquisition of land required for Package 1 of Namma Metro Phase 3, also known as the Orange Line, between J.P. Nagar 4th Phase and the Mysuru Road side of the corridor. This is the third land acquisition notification issued for the package.
Dated October 16, 2026, and published in the Karnataka State Gazette, the notification identifies properties measuring a total of 13,409.05 sq. m. across 11 entries. It provides details of the properties proposed for acquisition, including identification numbers, survey numbers, land extent and information on existing structures.
The properties are located in Kaggalipura, Jaraganahalli and other localities along the proposed metro alignment.
“This is the third land acquisition notification issued for Package 1 of Corridor 1 of Namma Metro Phase 3. The notification is part of the land acquisition process for the 44.65-km Phase 3 project, which will expand Bengaluru’s metro network with 31 stations across two corridors,” a Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) official said.
Meanwhile, more than two years after the project received approval, BMRCL recently invited expressions of interest from Indian and international consultancy firms to serve as the General Consultant for Phase 3. The consultant will provide technical and project management support for the development of both corridors.
Corridor 1 will run 32.15 km from J.P. Nagar 4th Phase to Kempapura and have 22 stations, while Corridor 2 will cover 12.50 km between Hosahalli and Kadabagere, with nine stations.
JICA assistance sought
BMRCL has applied for a Japanese Official Development Assistance loan of ¥102.48 billion from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to part-finance the two corridors.
“The proposed JICA loan will meet only a portion of the overall project cost, while BMRCL will arrange the balance funding. Consultancy appointments and procurement for components financed through the loan will be carried out in accordance with JICA guidelines,” the official said.
The General Consultant will review engineering designs, prepare and finalise tender documents, assess bids, and assist with contract negotiations. Once construction begins, the consultant will also monitor quality standards, workplace safety and environmental compliance, coordinate contractors’ work, and support testing and commissioning before the lines become operational.
Phase 3 is expected to improve connectivity across Bengaluru and ease congestion on busy stretches, particularly along the western Outer Ring Road, Magadi Road and other major arterial roads.
The project also envisages integration with existing and under-construction metro stations, BMTC bus terminals, Indian Railways stations and proposed suburban rail stations being developed by K-RIDE.
Multi-modal integration facilities are planned at JP Nagar 4th Phase, JP Nagar, Kamakya, Mysuru Road, Sumanahalli, Peenya, BEL Circle, Hebbal, Kempapura and Hosahalli. According to officials, these facilities are intended to enable seamless transfers between different modes of public transport and improve access to the expanded metro network.
