IMPHAL, Oct 13: A Myanmarese drug supplier has been apprehended by police following the arrest of a Kuki woman along with brown sugar.
The 37 years old Kuki woman and Myanmar National drug supplier were arrested along with 45 soap cases containing brown sugar yesterday night from Khupgou village under Churachandpur Police Station
Acting on specific information about the presence of drug dealers in and around Khupgou village area under Churachandpur police station, a team of Churachandpur police rushed to the spot along with women police personnel and arrested 37-year-old Chingmuanchin Samte w/o Pauginthang Vaiphei of Zabalei village, Singhat, presently residing at Khupgou village on October 12 night.
The police team recovered 45 soap cases containing brown sugar, Rs 39,550 in cash, one electronic weighing machine and one two-wheeler from her possession.
During preliminary interrogation, Chingmuanchin Samte disclosed that the seized drugs were supplied to her by Myanmar National Paumuonthang Tungnung (33) s/o (L) Punminthang Tungnung of Tamu, Myanmar presently staying at Boljol village, Churachandpur.
The police team rushed to Boljol village and arrested the Myanmar National last night by observing necessary formalities, sources said.
The arrested persons and seized items were handed over to Churachandpur police station for necessary legal action under the ND&PS Act and Immigration & Foreigners Act.
On the other hand, Jiribam police arrested a 40-year-old non local from Cachar along with 2.1 Kgs of brown sugar from Leingangpokpi Naka checkpost along Imphal-Jiribam highway yesterday.
Based on inputs regarding transportation of narcotic items along Imphal-Jiribam highway, Jiribam district police and Central armed forces carried out intensified frisking and checking at Leingangpokpi Naka checkpoint.
During the checking of passenger vehicles, one polythene bag concealing 4 packets of brown sugar, weighing 2 Kgs, were recovered from the possession of a passenger.
On spot verification, the passenger was identified as Eamdi Jamal Uddin (40) s/o (L) Jalal Uddin of Gontagram, Cachar, Assam.
Eamdi Jamal Uddin was arrested on the spot and the brown sugar was also seized by observing necessary formalities.
