By Breaking Belize News Staff: An Argentine couple preparing for an ambitious overland expedition across the Americas has set their sights on Belize, where they hope to combine adventure, cultural exchange and education with an initiative aimed at improving internet connectivity for children in rural communities.
Daniel Gustavo Loza and Analía Becher, the couple behind Overland Americas, are preparing for a journey that will take them through several countries, eventually reaching Ushuaia, Argentina, at the southern tip of South America.
The expedition, being planned for 2027, is intended to be more than a sightseeing adventure. The couple hopes to document their experiences, engage with local communities and promote educational opportunities along their route.
A central part of their proposed activities in Belize involves supporting rural schools through satellite internet connectivity and educational resources, particularly in communities where reliable access to the internet remains a challenge.
The initiative could involve donating satellite internet equipment and helping schools gain access to online educational resources. However, the couple has emphasized that the proposed installations remain in the planning stage and would require the necessary local coordination and telecommunications approvals. Support from satellite internet provider Starlink has not been confirmed.
Speaking with Breaking Belize News about their plans, Loza outlined a vision of using the expedition to build connections between communities while drawing attention to the importance of education and access to technology.
The couple’s preparations have continued in the United States, where technical institutions have become involved in getting their expedition vehicles ready for the demanding journey.
In their latest update to BBN, dated October 22, Loza and Becher confirmed that their Freightliner expedition vehicle was delivered to Berks Career & Technology Center in Pennsylvania on October 14 for inspection and preparation.
They also reported that Middle Bucks Institute of Technology has assisted with work involving their Jeep.
The collaboration adds an educational dimension to the expedition even before the couple begins travelling, connecting the practical challenges of vehicle preparation with technical training and community involvement.
The couple has also attracted international media interest. An interview about the project was recently featured on Honduras television programme Hoy Mismo Al Día, providing an opportunity to discuss their plans with a wider Central American audience.
Loza and Becher have since made the interview available with English subtitles and released an updated bilingual media kit outlining the project.
Although preparations are advancing, the couple confirmed that specific travel dates and future community activities remain under development. A confirmed date for their arrival in Belize has not yet been announced.
Their initiative is also connected to Casa Argentina en Philadelphia, through which they promote cultural connections and community engagement.
For Belize, the proposed visit presents an opportunity to connect an international overland adventure with local educational needs, particularly in rural communities where improved digital access could benefit students and teachers.
Whether the planned school-connectivity activities proceed will depend on the arrangements, partnerships and approvals secured before the expedition reaches the country.
In the meantime, Loza and Becher continue preparing their vehicles, engaging with educational institutions and sharing their vision for a journey that they hope will leave a positive impact on the communities they encounter.
More information about the project is available through Overland Americas, while the couple’s recent Honduras television interview offers additional insight into their preparations.
