Antoine Semenyo has suffered a knee injury and will be out of action for Manchester City until December.
The Ghanaian winger’s injury was announced by head coach Enzo Maresca during his press conference on Monday.
Maresca’s all-conquering side on the domestic scene will face AEK Athens in Tuesday’s UCL Matchday 3 fixtures, and Semenyo will not feature following scans on an injury.
He added that the medical team feared the worst for Semenyo but a return in December is good news to the Cityzens.
“The only one that will be out for probably eight weeks is Antoine. In the first moment we expected an even worse injury so we were more worried.
“After yesterday’s scan we feel much better because it’s not so big like we expected.
“It could be eight weeks [before he returns to action]. Now in this moment the most important thing for him is his recovery.
“When he is back around December it will be like a new player in terms of energy.”
Maresca added that the possible availability of top marksman Erling Haaland for the match against the Greek champions would be considered.
The Norwegian took a knock against Ipswich last weekend, and is not guaranteed to start the UCL match.
“We have a session now and we have some doubts after Saturday’s game. He was quite good yesterday. Better. So we’ll see today.
“Replacing Erling is always difficult. It depends a little bit on the gameplan and also there is a chance he can be available tomorrow.”
