Horror Movie Night is incoming on Dancing with the Stars, and everyone’s reading into Val Chmerkovskiy and Jenna Dewan’s song choice and movie theme.
The episode marks Val’s return to the ballroom after a weeklong suspension for making an “Oscar Slap” joke directed at judge Carrie Ann Inaba. He and Jenna will be dancing an Argentine tango to “Uninvited” by Damned Anthem and Kendra Dantes, and their theme? “Zombie movies.”
Cut to fans, who are reportedly speculating on whether Val and Jenna chose the song because he was briefly “uninvited” from Dancing With the Stars. As for the zombie movies theme, the “return from the dead” metaphor speaks for itself.
For what it’s worth, Val released a lengthy apology amid his suspension, writing “Hi everyone. As you may have seen in the news, I won’t be in the ballroom this week. In a moment where my instict was to defend my wife, I made a poor decision to reference a meme to ‘keep my wife’s name’ out of the conversation, without stopping to think through what else that reference could imply, which was genuinely never my intention. Carrie Ann certainly didn’t deserve to get caught in the middle of my bad judgement, and I hate that she was.”
He added, “The last thing I want is to become a distraction from an important week or from the incredible work my dance partner Jenna Dewan is putting in. Please send Carrie Ann, Jenna, and the whole DWTS family lots of love during Dedication Night. I’ll be watching and cheering everyone on!”
