Former Dome-Kwabenya MP and former Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Sarah Adwoa Safo, says her decision to seek the New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary ticket again was influenced by her longstanding relationship with constituents and her commitment to the constituency’s development.
Mrs Safo, in a statement issued on Thursday, October 22, 2026, said her connection with the people of Dome-Kwabenya went beyond politics, describing it as a bond built on years of service, sacrifice and shared aspirations.
She said her earlier intention to pursue opportunities outside the constituency had changed after deeper reflection on the responsibility of representing its more than 200,000 constituents in Parliament.
“Earlier, I had indicated my intention to pursue opportunities beyond the constituency. However, upon deeper reflection, I have come to appreciate that there is no greater honour or responsibility than serving and representing the interests and aspirations of the over two hundred thousand constituents of our beloved constituency in Parliament,” she said.
Mrs Safo, who served as the constituency’s MP for 12 years, said Dome-Kwabenya had experienced growth but continued to face developmental challenges requiring sustained attention.
She credited the progress made during her time in Parliament to collective efforts involving residents, NPP members, community and religious leaders, and other stakeholders.
According to her, the experience reinforced her determination to build on the gains made and pursue further development for the constituency.
The former MP also recalled that when she was elected as the NPP’s parliamentary candidate in 2012, the party had inherited votes in the region of 35,000, highlighting the collective efforts and unity that shaped its electoral fortunes.
Mrs Safo said she would formally present herself for consideration as the party’s parliamentary candidate when the NPP announces the timetable and guidelines for its parliamentary primaries.
