ISLAMABAD: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has arrested a four-member gang accused of sexually exploiting and blackmailing dozens of children and producing and selling obscene videos of them online.
Addressing a press conference, NCCIA Islamabad Additional Director Muhammad Shoaib Khan said the agency initially arrested one suspect and recovered around 50 to 60 obscene videos of children from his mobile phone.
Further investigation led to the arrest of three more suspects, exposing a network involved in exploiting children, he said.
According to Shoaib Khan, the suspects targeted children aged between six and 14 through Instagram. They befriended their victims and won their trust by sending them gifts, prizes, online money through mobile transfer, internet packages, and mobile phone recharge.
Once the children trusted them, the suspects contacted them, offered them rides on motorcycles and in cars, and recorded obscene and sexually exploitative videos of them.

The gang then allegedly used the videos to blackmail the victims and coerce them into helping the suspects target more children, the additional director said.
He added that the suspects sold the videos online to buyers locally and internationally.
Shoaib Khan said WhatsApp groups were also operating in different cities where such videos were circulated and bought and sold.
He urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant, keep a close eye on their children and monitor their social media activities to protect them from online exploitation.
NCCIA rescues Karachi girl targeted by dark web group
Earlier, NCCIA rescued a 13-year-old girl in Karachi who was allegedly targeted by an online network linked to the dark web and instructed to carry out acts of animal cruelty and self-harm.
The agency launched an investigation after receiving information from a foreign intelligence agency about suspicious online activities linked to a group allegedly involved in child exploitation.
According to NCCIA Additional Director Tariq Nawaz, the agency received a tip-off and an email address about the suspected group and relevant internet protocol (IP) addresses.
Investigators traced the digital footprints to Karachi and found that the person linked to the activity was a victim rather than a perpetrator.
