Ilhan Omar, the Minnesota lawmaker, has lashed out at President Donald Trump, describing him as the “pedophile protection party’s president” over his call for her seat to be declared vacant amid allegations that she used a fake identity to get elected as a U.S. lawmaker.
“The pedophile protection party’s president is laundering right-wing conspiracy theories through the most corrupt DOJ in American history,” Ms Omar said on X on Friday, posting a screenshot of Mr Trump’s social media post calling on the House speaker to declare her seat vacant.
The Somali-born American politician insisted that her name had always been Ilhan Omar and that she had never been involved in any fake identity scandal.
“Whenever the news turns bad, this creep reaches for one name: mine. So let’s make it crystal clear. My name has always been Ilhan Omar. Maybe you should focus on what your VP’s real name is,” Ms Omar said.
Citing revelations from ongoing investigations into allegations of Ms Omar’s involvement in immigration fraud on Thursday, Mr Trump said: “Please inform the Speaker of the House of Representatives, James Michael Johnson, that the Dumocrat Party has just conceded her seat. Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, her real name, has openly admitted to fraud, and she will not be legally allowed to be a member of this august body from this point forth.”
Mr Trump, who said Ms Omar risked being jailed and deported, added: “Therefore, because she used a fake name to be sworn in, I assume she must immediately resign from Congress.”
He added: “It was just revealed that Ilhan Omar’s name is not Ilhan Omar, the one she used to get elected and sworn into Congress, but rather, it’s an entirely different name, Ilhan Nur Said Elmi,” Mr Trump said. “And her last name is, incredibly, also the exact name of her brother, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, the person they said she married and had children with.”
