Motorists alarmed as thick, smelly smoke billows from Duke Highway drains near Sentul toll.
MOTORISTS travelling along the Duta–Ulu Klang Expressway (DUKE) towards Kuala Lumpur were alarmed this morning after thick smoke and a foul odour began emerging from several drain grates just past the Sentul Toll Plaza.
A Threads user, @snapaholicphotography, highlighted the incident in a brief post, reporting that smoke was seen billowing from drains heading towards the capital city.

“DUKE this morning… past the Sentul Toll plaza towards KL. Smoke coming out of the drain,” they wrote.
Another user claimed that the dense smoke produced an unpleasant smell, prompting concerns over what might have triggered the phenomenon.
“DUKE, past the Sentul Toll towards Kuala Lumpur. Thick, foul-smelling smoke coming from the drain,” the user stated.
Meanwhile, another user shared on Threads that she noticed plumes of smoke rising from three separate drain grates as she drove through the area.
She initially thought little of it, assuming it was harmless, before realising the situation was more serious than she first believed.
“Oh, that’s quite bad. I thought it was nothing much when I drove past earlier, as I actually noticed smoke rising from those three drain grates. I didn’t realise it was this extensive. It’s rather frightening, especially since traffic is already congested right after the toll,” she said.
