Huawei has updated the management page on its official website to show He Gang as a company director. He continues as CEO of the Consumer Business Group, which runs the company's phones and other consumer devices. Chinese media noticed the change on October 23.
According to Tencent Technology, the board still has 17 members. Peng Bo, previously a director and president of the Global Procurement Qualification Management Department, is no longer on the latest list. Huawei has not issued a separate statement explaining the change.
He Gang was born in 1973, holds a master's degree from Xidian University and joined Huawei in 1998. According to the company's profile, he previously served as president of the wireless GSM and UMTS product line, head of global wireless solutions sales, president of the Consumer BG handset product line and Consumer BG chief operating officer. He became Consumer BG CEO in April 2024, when Richard Yu moved to the role of Consumer BG chairman. He was elected an alternate director at the board election in March 2023. Under Huawei's governance rules, alternate directors fill board vacancies through the company's procedures.
The current board listed on the website is chaired by Liang Hua. The vice chairs are Eric Xu, Sabrina Meng and Wang Tao. The executive directors are Zhang Ping'an, Richard Yu, Zheng Liangcai and Yang Chaobin, and He Tingbo attends executive meetings as a non-voting member. The other directors are Ken Hu, Zha Jun, Hou Jinlong, Ying Weimin, Ren Zhengfei, Zhou Yuefeng, Li Peng and He Gang. Richard Yu remains an executive director and chairman of the Consumer BG.
Huawei describes the board as its highest body responsible for strategy, operations management and customer satisfaction. Its responsibilities include decisions on entering or leaving businesses, strategic planning, major organizational changes and senior appointments. A Standing Committee of the board, made up of Xu, Meng, Wang, Zhang, Yu, Zheng and Yang, handles matters delegated by the full board. The board and the committee are chaired by a rotating chairman who serves for six months.
Huawei's directors are elected through a layered process. Shareholding employees elect representatives, and the representatives' commission elects directors. The company's shareholders' meeting then approves the result.
