Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar has accused the BNP of colluding with the Awami League through contacts with Delhi, alleging that the party is creating opportunities for the Awami League to return to politics.
He made the remarks on Wednesday at the inauguration of the new office of the Bangladesh Labour Party on Topkhana Road in Dhaka.
The event was organised to mark the 49th founding anniversary of the party, an ally of the Jamaat-led 11-party alliance.
Golam Parwar also alleged that the current government was relying on intelligence agencies that had been involved in enforced disappearances and killings during the previous Awami League regime.
“In seven months, the government has made a complete mess of things,” he said.
Addressing the prime minister, the Jamaat leader alleged that the government’s network was maintaining close ties with the Awami League behind the scenes.
He questioned the government’s reliance on intelligence agencies that, he claimed, had framed innocent people as militants and subjected them to crossfire killings, remand and secret detention at the so-called Aynaghar.
Golam Parwar also criticised the BNP leadership, describing it as immature and lacking foresight.
He claimed that around four ministers and lawmakers had left office during the period and accused the leadership of making immature, inefficient and politically inappropriate statements.
The Jamaat leader also urged the government to accept the demands of workers protesting for higher wages.
He said workers were facing difficult conditions and criticised the prime minister for blaming the opposition for labour unrest.
With inflation exceeding 9% and non-food inflation even higher, the government should hold discussions with employers and take steps to meet workers’ demands, he said.
Bangladesh Labour Party President Mostafizur Rahman chaired the programme, which was also addressed by leaders of the 11-party alliance.
