A sand-loaded truck reportedly burst four tyres before losing control and colliding with an oncoming flour delivery truck on the Gulu–Kampala Highway, killing one driver and leaving two people seriously injured.
One person has been killed and two others seriously injured in a road crash involving a sand-loaded truck and a wheat flour delivery truck along the Gulu–Kampala Highway in Luweero District.
The crash occurred at about 11:50am on Sunday, October 18, in Nkondo Village, Nyimbwa Sub-county, claiming the life of Denis Ssegujja, the driver of the sand truck.
Savannah Regional Police spokesperson ASP Sam Twiineamazima said the crash involved a Sino truck, registration number UBJ 314L, which was transporting sand, and a Mitsubishi Fuso box-body truck, registration number UA 283 DJ, carrying wheat flour.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the Sino truck was travelling from Gulu towards Kampala when it reportedly burst four tyres, lost control and rammed into the oncoming Mitsubishi Fuso.
“The truck reportedly burst four tyres, lost control and rammed into the oncoming Mitsubishi Fuso,” Twiineamazima said.
The impact forced the Mitsubishi Fuso off the road before it overturned in a nearby maize garden, leaving two occupants seriously injured.
The injured victims were rushed to Bombo General Military Hospital for treatment, while Ssegujja’s body was taken to Luweero General Hospital for a postmortem examination.
Both vehicles were towed to Bombo Police Parking Yard pending inspection by the Inspectorate of Vehicles (IOV).
Twiineamazima said investigations into the crash were ongoing as police sought to establish the circumstances surrounding the reported tyre failure and the subsequent collision.
