Pakistan Post has directed its Punjab offices to tighten checks on postal, courier and online delivery services to prevent people from transporting kites and prohibited kite strings ahead of Basant 2027. The department issued the order on Tuesday and instructed staff to report suspected violations to the police without delay.
The decision follows a high-level meeting convened by the Punjab government to review preparations for Basant 2027. In a letter, the Postmaster General of Central Punjab Circle directed officials to monitor the movement, storage, sale and distribution of kites and dangerous strings, particularly metallic wires and metal-coated kite strings.
The letter states that authorities prohibit the transportation and delivery of kites and kite strings across Punjab through postal services, courier companies and online delivery platforms. Staff must take effective measures to stop people from booking, dispatching or delivering these materials.
Officials must immediately report suspected prohibited items to the nearest police station. Pakistan Post has also instructed staff to identify people attempting to book or dispatch such materials and report them to the relevant authorities, including the deputy commissioner’s office.
The department has urged transport operators, courier companies and online delivery services to help identify and report suspicious consignments. It has also called for dedicated WhatsApp groups to enable relevant departments to share information promptly and coordinate action against violations.
