General Overseer of the Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria, Rev Samuel Aboyeji
The General Overseer of The Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria, Rev. Sam Aboyeji, has called on Nigerians to embrace hard work and shun corruption and Internet fraud.
The cleric delivered the charge at the church’s just-concluded 71st annual convention, themed “Breaking New Grounds,” held at the Foursquare Camp along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ajebo, Ogun State.
According to the cleric, national renewal required diligence, integrity and a collective commitment to building a better society.
He encouraged Nigerians not to be complacent with the state of the nation but to contribute meaningfully to its development.
“Even when we desire new grounds, we need to work hard at it by being diligent,” he said.
Aboyeji urged those involved in Internet fraud, popularly known as Yahoo Yahoo, and other corrupt practices to abandon dishonest activities and embrace legitimate livelihoods.
He stressed that Nigeria’s development depended on citizens’ willingness to work productively, innovate and create opportunities, calling on Nigerians to establish businesses, develop industries and pursue ideas capable of transforming the economy.
The cleric maintained that indolence and dishonesty would undermine national progress, adding that hard work and integrity were essential to breaking new ground across all sectors.
However, he said human efforts alone could not guarantee sustainable progress without divine intervention, particularly in addressing the country’s economic and social challenges.
Citing biblical teachings on seeking God’s intervention, he urged Nigerians to humble themselves, pray and turn away from wickedness.
Expressing optimism about the country’s future, the cleric declared that Nigeria would overcome its difficulties.
He posited, “This Nigerian land will be healed. There will be many more new grounds to be broken, even in this land, in the name of Jesus Christ.”
Speaking on the church’s focus on “Ever-Increasing Glory” ahead of the 2027 general election, Aboyeji urged Nigerians to remain hopeful despite prevailing uncertainties.
He said faith in God, confidence in the country and belief in its leadership were necessary to sustain hope for a better future.
The chairman of the 71st Convention Organising Committee, Rev. Charles Fashola, disclosed that the church empowered several participants from different parts of the country as part of activities aligned with the convention’s theme.
The wife of the General Overseer, Rev. Olabisi Aboyeji, also urged women to be intentional about raising their children in the ways of the Lord.
She noted that a proper Christian upbringing would prepare them for responsible leadership in the future.
The five-day convention featured clerics, including the Senior Pastor of Christ Livingspring Apostolic Ministry, Wole Oladoyun, and the Founder and President of Encounter Jesus Ministries International, Apostle Michael Orokpo, among others.
