The caretaker Commissioner of Juba County, Kalisto Lado, says citizens should not have to beg government leaders for basic services, stressing that public services are funded by taxpayers’ money.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Eye Radio, Lado questioned why citizens should plead with their leaders for services paid for through public funds.
“I don’t want people to be like; they are begging the leadership to give them services. Citizens this is your money; it’s not you to beg us. We are your servants, you are our masters, you are our leaders. The cars we are driving, these good cars we are driving, are bought by your money,” Lado said.
He said taxpayers’ money is used to provide government facilities, including hospitals, adding that delivering basic services is the government’s responsibility.
“The good houses we sleep in in Amarat these are houses built by your own resources. The salary and incentives that the constitutional post holders get, this is your money, the taxpayers’ money. How do you beg the person who you are giving money?
“The person you are accommodating, you are feeding, you are putting, even this good chair I’m sitting on, is bought using taxpayers’ money. Why do you beg? You need to order us, command us, tell us we need a school. Why don’t you build a school here?” he said.
Lado reiterated that government leaders have a duty to serve citizens and ensure they receive the basic services they need.
