YEOSU — "In October, Yeosu's nights run deeper than its days, and its culture stretches wider than its sea."
As autumn colors deepen in October, Yeosu, the tourism city in Jeonnam-Gwangju Special Metropolitan City, is transforming into a vast cultural stage. The romance of the night sea, the vitality of the islands, the warmth of the southern Jeolla region's farming villages and the quiet melodies of a mountain temple will all come alive across the city. From Marine Park and Ungcheon Waterfront Park to Soho Dongdong Bridge, Yongmunsa Temple on Mount Bibong and the Yeosu World Expo site, Yeosu's days and nights will be colored by festivals.
The city said it will hold a series of cultural, tourism and hands-on events from the 16th to the 21st, welcoming autumn visitors alongside the momentum of the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo.
A Cultural Voyage Rising Over Yeosu's Night Sea
At the center of Yeosu's autumn festivities is the 2026 Month of Culture celebration.
The city will stage the 2026 Month of Culture events over four days from Oct. 16 to 19 at venues across the city, including Marine Park, Ungcheon Waterfront Park and the main venue of the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo. This year's theme is "Yeosu Night Sea: A Voyage of Romance and Culture."
The Month of Culture is an official government event whose host city is selected each year through an open competition run by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Yeosu was chosen as the 2026 host in recognition of its distinctive local cultural resources and its appeal as a marine tourism city. Starting on the first day, the 16th, a marine street arts festival will unfold around Marine Park, featuring a themed light street, the YK Festa, an EDM Festa and street performances.
At Ungcheon Waterfront Park, a community culture fair will be held around an experience zone for local hobby groups. Programs open to both residents and visitors will also run around Ungcheon Jangdo and Seo Market.
The city becomes the stage, and its alleys become the seats. Yeosu's sea becomes the lighting, and residents become the stars of the festival.
The centerpiece ceremony marking the Month of Culture will be held on the 17th at the open stage of the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo site. The ceremony will open with a performance, followed by a thematic program and a celebratory concert. The stage will showcase Yeosu's marine culture, the sentiment of its islands and the romance of its night sea. On the final day, Monday the 19th, a closing ceremony will be held at the expo's main venue, capping the events with a traditional music festival, a communal folk performance and a closing show.

Soho Dongdong Bridge Becomes a Stage Under the Moonlight
Yeosu's nights do not end there.
From the 16th to the 17th, the city will present "Soho Moonlight Terrace," a night tourism program at the plaza by Soho Dongdong Bridge. The program combines busking with an original musical, set against one of Yeosu's signature coastal night views.
Music will drift over the night sea, and stories will spread across the bridge. Soho Dongdong Bridge becomes more than a walkway — it turns into an emotional stage for an autumn night.
The musical will be open to both advance registrants and walk-in audiences. The venue will also feature a musical photo zone and an exhibition zone displaying key scenes. Advance registration for the performance is available through a Naver form from the 12th to the 15th.
Namdo's Flavors and Home Cooking Come to Yeosu
As the island expo draws crowds, the charms of the region's farming villages are also converging on Yeosu.
From the 20th to the 21st, the city will host the 2026 Jeonnam-Gwangju Special Metropolitan City Rural Experience Festival at the Expo Digital Gallery inside the Yeosu World Expo site in Deokchung-dong. The event is being organized in conjunction with the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo. Rural tourism villages from across Jeonnam-Gwangju will take part, promoting the appeal of southern Jeolla's rural tourism to domestic and international visitors.
A promotional pavilion for the region will operate at the venue, along with village-by-village rural tourism and activity booths, a market for local farm specialties and processed goods, visitor events and cultural performances. Hands-on programs for families are also drawing attention, including making gat kimchi, a leaf-mustard kimchi, and crafting keyrings.
Visitors will encounter the sea at the island expo, and the land and home cooking of southern Jeolla at the rural experience festival.
Music Settles Over an Autumn Mountain Temple at Yongmunsa
If the city's festivals unfold on the sea and in the streets, the temple's festival deepens in stillness. On the 17th, the city will hold the 20th Yongmunsa Healing Mountain Temple Concert at Yongmunsa Temple on Mount Bibong. Hosted by the city and organized by Yongmunsa Temple of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism, the concert is designed to let residents and visitors enjoy music and culture amid the deepening autumn atmosphere of a mountain temple.
The program will be emceed by Baek Woo-sung. Performers include singer Kim Da-yeon, the traditional Korean music group Maro and the saxophone ensemble Sorimoa, presenting popular songs, Korean traditional music and saxophone performances. Now in its 20th year, the Yongmunsa concert has long been a cultural fixture shared with the local community. It has established itself as an open arts venue where anyone can enjoy a performance, regardless of religion.

In October, Yeosu Becomes a City Where Visitors Stay
This autumn, Yeosu is not simply a city to look at. It is a city for walking along the night sea, listening to performances, tasting the home cooking of its farming villages and encountering music at a mountain temple.
The 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo sets the city's broader current, while the Month of Culture events, night tourism programs, the rural experience festival and the mountain temple concert add varied colors on top of it.
Seo Young-hak, mayor of Yeosu, said the city will do its best in preparing the events so that the many visitors coming to Yeosu during the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo can feel the appeal of its culture and tourism throughout the city.
