The Washington Commanders have been the talk of the NFL world for all the wrong reasons on Sunday after inexplicably letting the clock expire in overtime despite clearly being in position for a game-winning field goal attempt.
With just 12 seconds remaining in overtime, Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels took a sack on the Giants' 24 yard line instead of attempting to throw the ball away and simply kick a game-winning field goal. As a result, the game ended in a 27-27 tie instead of a potential Commanders win.
This kind of error certainly looms large for a team like the Commanders, who came into the game in desperate need of a win at 1-3 on the season. Especially considering the fact that the Giants are leading the NFC East.

Naturally, following the game, Commanders players were subjected to questions pertaining to how this kind of blunder can happen. Commanders guard Chris Paul answered one question in particular that was perhaps the most pressing topic of discussion.
When asked about the moment, Paul made it clear that it was discussed in the huddle that they had no timeouts and could not afford to run a play that would keep the clock running.
"Yes, that was talked about," said Paul.

While Paul didn't directly throw Daniels under the bus, clarifying that the entire offense knew the situation and that they had no timeouts remaining inherently means that Jayden Daniels clearly did not properly manage the clock in this situation by attempting to scramble and taking a sack instead of simply throwing the ball away.
Maybe some rust played a factor for Daniels, who of course returned for the Commanders this week after missing the last two games with a left elbow dislocation.
Regardless, Daniels and the Commanders will look to move forward from this ugly moment and prepare for a tough test in Week 6 when they take on the San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football.
