Colombo, Oct. 16 (Daily Mirror) - A round-the-clock intensive care operation is continuing to save the life of Kavantissa, a giant elephant that suddenly fell ill, with a specialist treatment plan in place and arrangements being made to obtain foreign veterinary expertise if necessary.
Veterinary teams from the Department of Wildlife Conservation are providing continuous treatment to the elephant under a scientific medical plan developed by a panel of local experts.
The operation is being carried out under the direct instructions and supervision of the Minister and Deputy Minister of Environment, with technical and security support from the tri-forces.
Authorities have also made advance preparations to respond to any emergency, including arranging the equipment and specialised lifting belt that may be required to move the elephant if its condition necessitates such intervention.
