Newcastle United are back at St James’ Park today.
Our fortress.
You can do all kinds of things with statistics but some pretty huge ones can be unveiled ahead of Newcastle United taking on Aston Villa at St James’ Park at 5.30pm.
There are positives and negatives when looking at these stats below that show last 20 NUFC matches at SJP in all competitions.
On the positive side, we are one day short of exactly six months since Newcastle United lost at home.
The ‘relaxing’ summer break obviously helps but still, the last six home matches have seen Newcastle United win four and draw two of them, scoring 15 goals in half a dozen games.
Although Newcastle United have also conceding in all of these last six home matches which brings us to the start of really telling (not so positive) stats…
These are the last 20 matches at St James’ Park (Premier League unless noted otherwise), reading backwards from the most recent:
Newcastle 2 Hull 1
Newcastle 2 Bournemouth 2
Newcastle 3 West Brom 2 (Carabao Cup)
Newcastle 2 Liverpool 2
Newcastle 3 West Ham 1
Newcastle 3 Brighton 1
Newcastle 1 Bournemouth 2
Newcastle 1 Sunderland 2
Newcastle 1 Barcelona 1 (Champions League)
Newcastle 1 Manchester City 3 (FA Cup)
Newcastle 2 Manchester United 1
Newcastle 2 Everton 3
Newcastle 3 Qarabag 2 (Champions League)
Newcastle 2 Brentford 3
Newcastle 0 Aston Villa 2
Newcastle 3 PSV 0 (Champions League 21 January 2026)
Newcastle 0 Manchester City 2 (Carabao Cup)
Newcastle 3 Bournemouth 3 (FA Cup NUFC won 7-6 on penalties)
Newcastle 4 Leeds 3
Newcastle 2 Crystal Palace 0 (4 January 2026)
Stand out stats
You have to go back nine months and 16 home games for the last SJP clean sheet when Newcastle won 3-0 against PSV in the Champions League.
The last home clean sheet in the Premier League was nine and a half months ago when on 4 January 2026 we saw United beat Palace 2-0.
The last 19 home matches have seen Newcastle United concede 36 goals, a fraction under an average of two per game.
In these last 19 home games, Newcastle United have scored 38 goals of their own, exactly averaging two per match.
If you are putting any money on this match today, maybe best not to back a goalless draw! Whereas a 2-2 draw…
The last time Newcastle United failed to score at home was on 25 January 2026 against…Aston Villa in a 2-0 Premier League defeat.
However, Aston Villa have had their own issues with stopping the ball going into their net this season, Unai Emery’s team have conceded 11 goals in their six Premier League games this season. This is the most they have conceded at this stage of a top flight campaign since 1986/87, when they eventually finished bottom at the end of the season.
Difficult to predict what the result will be today but easy to forecast there will be goals for sure.
