As the model is Canva’s own, the business is now free to open new business ventures selling its Craft model to other brands via a public API and MCP server.
Craft was developed from scratch by Canva Research, the company’s in-house AI lab, which has more than 160 scientists and engineers.

The model is now available to developers through its public API and can generate images at 2K resolution in any aspect ratio.
Canva said its model “uses a two-stage architecture that separates compositional planning from image rendering.”
In the first stage, the model interprets the prompt and writes a detailed plan of the composition while the second stage translates this into a high-resolution image across more than 30 aspect ratios.
In a Canva statement, JJ Fiasson, head of generative AI at Canva, said, “Craft delivers exceptional results for jobs where the layouts and text need to be perfect, and renders people and landscapes with stunning quality.”
“We believe it’s going to unlock so many new ways for people to bring their imagination to life. With additional steering capabilities and major speed improvements on the way, this is a huge step forward for Canva’s Al experience. We’re just getting started,” Fiasson added.
