KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has directed his officers to provide immediate assistance to two journalists injured in a road accident while travelling to cover an event in Bagan Datuk, Perak, today.
Anwar said he had received news of the accident involving New Straits Times (NST) journalist Zahratulhayat Md Arif and Bernama journalist Nur Afiradina Arshad.
He wished both journalists a smooth recovery and said he had instructed his officers to provide the assistance they needed.
"I have also directed my officers to extend the immediate assistance needed by both of them.
"May all matters be eased for them and their families as they go through this ordeal," he wrote on social media.
The two journalists were on their way to cover the opening ceremony of the Bagan Datuk District Sultan Nazrin Shah Bridge Run at the Bagan Datuk Night Market site, scheduled for 8.30am today.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also Rural and Regional Development Minister and Bagan Datuk member of parliament, attended the event.
Their Perodua Bezza was rear-ended by a lorry about 6am along Jalan Menglembu, Ipoh, causing it to spin several times before overturning.
Both were taken to Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB) for treatment.
Zahratulhayat was discharged after receiving outpatient treatment, while Afiradina remained under observation after vomiting and sustaining injuries to her right arm.
