The Gauhati High Court on Thursday issued notices to the Commissioner of Police and the Director General of Police (DGP) of Assam over an alleged incident of harassment involving advocate Anindita Das at the Azara Revenue Circle Office on October 9.
Das had filed a writ petition before the High Court two days ago, seeking action in connection with the incident.
The matter came up for hearing on Thursday, following which the court issued notices to the two senior police officials.
According to the allegations, Azara Police did not register a case even after a complaint was filed over the incident. The circumstances surrounding the alleged harassment and the police response are expected to be examined as the matter proceeds.
The advocate community has demanded that police register a case and arrest those responsible within three days. Members of the community have warned of an agitation if their demands are not met.
Further details of the court proceedings and the response of the police authorities are awaited.
