The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Kathmandu has issued a special safety advisory for Sri Lankans living in and travelling to Nepal following a flash flood in the Budhigandaki River basin in the Gorkha district.
The advisory was issued after a sudden flood originated from a tributary in the Samagaun Rural Municipality area of Gorkha at around 6.00 a.m. yesterday (Oct. 11).
All Sri Lankans currently staying in the Gorkha, Dhading, Nuwakot and Chitwan districts, as well as along the Budhigandaki River valley, have been urged to take immediate safety measures.
The embassy advised Sri Lankans to remain highly vigilant, avoid unnecessary travel, stay away from high-risk areas such as rivers, riverbanks, bridges and low-lying areas, and strictly follow announcements issued by local defence forces, provincial authorities and tourist police.
They have also been instructed to maintain constant communication with their hotels, trekking agencies, guides and the Sri Lankan Embassy in Kathmandu, and to avoid starting any journeys without first confirming road conditions.
Authorities have further advised against travelling across flooded roads or water streams and urged people to move immediately to higher, safer locations if instructed by officials.
All planned trips to the affected districts should be postponed until authorities officially confirm that roads are safe.
For emergency assistance, information, or coordination, the embassy can be contacted via its emergency hotline at +9779851048653 or by email at [email protected].
