By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): The Actun Tunichil Muknal (ATM) Archaeological Reserve has reopened to visitors, but two other sites remain closed following heavy rains.
In a notice issued at 6:20am on Monday, October 19, the Institute of Archaeology of the National Institute of Culture and History (IA/NICH) said the Nohoch Che’en and Barton Creek Archaeological Reserves will stay closed until further notice.
All other archaeological reserves, including ATM, are open for visits.
The Institute is advising tour operators and guides to exercise caution, especially during water based activities.
On Sunday, NICH had closed ATM and Barton Creek and suspended water tours at Nohoch Che’en because of elevated river levels.
The IA/NICH says it continues to monitor conditions and will provide updates as necessary.
