UEFA Champions League Matchday Two delivered a string of dramatic encounters, with Paris Saint-Germain claiming a 4-2 victory over Manchester City, Liverpool scoring six against LASK and Aston Villa recording a historic 6-0 win over Fenerbahçe.
PSG made a statement at the Etihad Stadium, producing a dominant first-half display to take control of the contest. Désiré Doué and Ousmane Dembélé scored in quick succession before Vitinha added a third to put the visitors firmly in command.
Manchester City responded after the break, with Erling Haaland scoring twice, but Maghnes Akliouche restored PSG’s cushion before Gianluigi Donnarumma saved a penalty from Ferran Torres to help secure the French side’s victory.
Haaland’s first goal also saw him become the fastest player to reach 60 Champions League goals, achieving the milestone in 60 appearances.
Liverpool were equally impressive in Austria, beating LASK 6-3 in a nine-goal thriller. Bradley Barcola scored a hat-trick, while Ronald Araújo, Jeremie Frimpong and Lewis Koumas also found the net. LASK replied through Robert Ljubičić and a Florian Flecker brace, but Liverpool’s attacking quality proved decisive.
Aston Villa also enjoyed a memorable European night, thrashing Fenerbahçe 6-0 at Villa Park for their biggest European victory. Nicolas Jackson scored twice, as did Ross Barkley, while Johan Manzambi and Tammy Abraham completed the route.
Real Madrid produced one of the night’s most remarkable comebacks, scoring three times late on to beat AS Roma 4-3 after trailing 3-1. Carlos Espi and Endrick brought the Spanish side level before Antonio Rüdiger struck a dramatic late winner.
Elsewhere, Feyenoord edged Como 3-2, while Real Betis beat Porto by the same scoreline. Shakhtar Donetsk defeated AEK Athens 3-1, Stuttgart won 3-0 away to Slovan Bratislava, and Bodø/Glimt claimed a 1-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund.
Tuesday’s action had also produced its share of surprises. Club Brugge stunned Inter Milan with a 4-3 away win, while Barcelona recovered from conceding first to beat Galatasaray 4-1.
Arsenal defeated Lille 3-0, Atlético Madrid beat Manchester United 2-0, and Sporting CP secured a 2-0 victory at Lens. Bayern Munich were held to a thrilling 3-3 draw by Viking, while Villarreal beat Napoli 3-1 and RB Leipzig edged PSV Eindhoven 1-0. Sabah also recorded a 2-0 win over Slavia Prague.
After two matchdays completed, the results have underlined the competitiveness of the league phase, with established European contenders suffering setbacks and other sides making early statements in the race for the knockout places.
