Disciplinary measures confirmed by FIFA
The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has confirmed that it has received formal notification from FIFA regarding the suspension of three key members of the national team setup. According to the ruling, head coach Hossam Hassan and team manager Ibrahim have both been hit with three-match bans. The sanctions were significantly harsher for Zico, who has been slapped with a five-match suspension following the fallout from their Round of 16 clash against Argentina.
These punishments are a direct result of the chaos that erupted after Egypt’s 3-2 defeat in North America, a game that saw the Pharaohs surrender a lead against the eventual finalists. The EFA had previously been notified that FIFA had begun disciplinary proceedings back in August, and the global governing body has now moved to finalize their verdict.
